D’Accardi as a painter is inseparable from d’Accardi the poet, and over the years, several collections were made of his published works.

“His solitary nature appears to us, too, in a collection of his recent poems: for d’Accardi, poetry and painting are sister art forms, almost, we might say, two aspects of the same sentiment: a serene and peaceful goodness, far from the flood of human misery in which common man, without an ark, struggles to live.”

Gian Rodolfo d’Accardi loved to experiment. Engraving, with the help of his old hand press, was just one of the various techniques with which he experimented.

“Within a strenuous control of sign, the figure of d’Accardi moves with apparent instability, whilst it is applied to the needs of sentiment and the mobility of themes in their most explicit compositional immediacy. “Clowns” and “knights” expand – in their fantastic ephemerality – a lyric pantomime of events and memories, of extreme and whirling silences, through a flexible spelling out (of the sign) within innocent and happy images, void of contingent problems, and proposed by a sensitive Platonic and mechanical metaphor of bodies and spontaneous games.”

Never tired of embarking upon new challenges, it was his love of form which drew him to sculpture.

“What have I not done which I would like to do?
Be a sculptor. It is my only regret. I like forms. I appreciate this art form, but have never found a way to express myself with it. I do not know why. Perhaps due to a slight shyness. I think I will turn to it later. I am still coming up with plans, projects. I do not feel old. Some people are born old…”

Alongside his recognition as a painter, poet, graphic artist and sculptor…here is further unpublished work by d’Accardi.
Constantly in search of new expressive forms, in his journey between subject-matter and colour, he also dedicated himself to the creation of jewelry.
