Shooting – Men against Men

“D’Accardi expresses himself through bright and harmonious colours, and imaginative shapes sometimes conceived by inspiration, sometimes dictated by a sincere passion. He is deeply religious. It seems natural to me, therefore, that the best work on display is a large Crucifixion. This canvas alone illuminates the vast exhibition hall. Very vivid drama is also seen in the painting entitled Shooting. These two paintings seem to me to be the best of the exhibition; in each of them, colour and form, from a purely formalist point of view, are the true protagonists of the drama aroused by the “subject”. I want to say that the drama of these works is not exterior or superficial; it does not come from the mawkishness of the figures or from their very attitudes, but almost solely from the very way colour and form have been conceived.”
